Smith County Road Projects:

November 3, 2025: Smith County Road 26, between Farm-to-Market Road 850 and CR 21, is closed while Road and Bridge crews replace six cross culverts. The closure will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday, November 3-7.

October 27, 2025: Smith County Road and Bridge crews are preparing to begin two road projects.

Equipment is being staged so crews can start next week cleaning the ditches on County Road 217, northwest of Overton. Work will include cutting edges on the road, hauling off all excavated material, grinding and mixing the existing roadway structure and recompacting the material. The road will then be overlaid with hot mix asphalt pavement material.
About 1.15 miles of CR 217, from Farm-to-Market Road 850 north to the bridge, will be improved. This work is tentatively scheduled to start the first part of November and should take at least two to three weeks, depending on the weather, Smith County Engineer Frank Davis said.
Road and Bridge crews are also in the process of addressing the base failures and gopher runs on CR 2205, also known as Cherokee Trail, east of Chapel Hill.
They will also cut the road edges and address some drainage/ditch issues including cleaning out some culverts. Once the base repairs have settled, the pavement crew will go back to overlay the road. The base repairs should take about two weeks, depending on weather, Davis said.
About 1.326 miles of CR 2205 will be improved, from its intersection with CR 290 to FM Road 850.

October 7, 2025: The Smith County Commissioners Court approved accepting the completion of the construction contract for improvements to County Roads 1100, 1113, 1131, 1225, and 199. Texana Land & Asphalt completed construction improvements to 7.455 miles of roads. The project cost nearly $2.1 million, coming in at $122,421 below the original contract. This project was paid for with Phase 2 of the Road and Bridge Bond Program.

September 30, 2025: The Smith County Commissioners Court approved contracts for six county roads to be reconstructed as part of the Road and Bridge Bond Program.

Texana Land & Asphalt Inc. was awarded two contracts, coming in as the lowest bidder on both projects.

Five bids were received for improvements to County Road 26 (from Farm-to-Market Road 850 to CR 21) and for CR 27 (from its intersection with CR 26, to the end of the road). This $1.69 million project includes improving 5.16 miles.

CR 26 will be widened and reconstructed with cement stabilization of the existing base material. It will then be paved with new asphalt and will also have striping and buttons installed. CR 27 will also be reconstructed and overlaid with asphalt.

Construction should begin within the next two to three months on this project.

Texana Land & Asphalt was the lowest bidder of four bids received for CR 313 (from FM 14 to FM 2015) and CR 3147 (from its intersection with CR 313 to its end). The $2.3 million project includes improving 7.237 miles of road.

Both county roads will be widened, with cement stabilization of the blended existing pavement and base materials and then paved with hot mix asphalt.  CR 313 will also have striping and buttons installed.

Construction should begin within the next one to two months.

A.E. Shull & Company was awarded two contracts.

The company was the lowest out of six bids for CR 2193. The existing roadway pavement and base will be mixed, and cement stabilized and then have an asphalt pavement overlay. The $399,118 project will include improving 1.345 miles of road.

Work on this roadway should begin within the next two to three months.

A.E. Shull & Company came in as the winning bid out of six bids for CR 172.

The existing roadway pavement and base materials will be mixed and then cement stabilized before being paved with asphalt. The $462,256 project will improve 1.572 miles of road.

Work on this roadway should begin within the next one to two months.

July 9, 2025: The bridge on Smith County Road 452, at Mill Creek, has reopened today after being closed for about a year. CR 452, north of Lindale, was closed after washing out due to heavy rains in June 2024. The Texas Department of Transportation constructed the new bridge, and the Smith County Road and Bridge Department reopened the road on July 9.
