Text Message Related to Delinquent Taxes
Text Alert - If you receive a text regarding your account:
We have retained the the law firm of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP to assist in resolving delinquent accounts, and you may receive texts messages from Linebarger. Be aware that there have been recent scam attempts to impersonate various government entities and their collection agents.
Any text from Linebarger will originate from the following short code phone number (98023) and contain LINEBARGER ATTORNEYS AT LAW logo.
Scammers may attempt to spoof a 5-digit or 6-digit short code, but their texts will have a full phone number included (sometimes with a Country Code), and are usually sent to groups of people with no specific recipient name.
A Linebarger text will always include your name, an account-specific reference number, a toll-free call-back number, a link to Disclosures and Frequently Asked Questions, and a link to a payment website.
Proposed Property Tax Bill Information Postcard
The Smith County Appraisal District (which is NOT part of Smith County government), sent out a postcard recently that has customers calling the Smith County Tax Office (which IS part of Smith County government). Here is what the postcard looks like: Proposed Property Tax Bill Information Postcard
Here are a few things Smith County Tax Assessor-Collector Gary Barber and his office want you to know about these postcards:
- This postcard is not your 2022 Tax Statement. You should receive a bill by the middle of October or middle of November.
- This is just a proposed estimate of your 2022 Tax Statement.
- The postcard is designed to show everyone how the rates are proposed and adopted.
- You should not be asked to pay anything to view your property records. If you are asked to pay please change your browser to Google.
- The website will not have exemptions on your accounts.
